In this research paper, I will discuss and prove why violent video games are harmful to children. I will prove that video games cause aggression, are addictive, and cause the brain to desensitize. My research will come from various researchers, including authors, doctors, and sociologists, who have had thorough knowledge and background on violent video games and the effects they have on children in today’s society. I will provide qualitative and quantitative data from research that will come from databases, books, and websites. The research will not only prove the dangers but also advise parents to limit video game exposure to their children.
Thesis:
Violent video games are harmful to children because they cause aggressive behavior and addictiveness. Although children actively explore the game’s virtual world with decision-making, strategizing, and developing hypotheses through cognition, children should be limited to video game exposure to prevent desensitization.
Outline:
Intro: Dangers and benefits of video games; follow into thesis and take a position.
Paragraph 1: Content of violent video games and rating system
Paragraph 2: Discuss aggressive behavior, thoughts, and feelings
Paragraph 3: Addictiveness
Paragraph 4: Rebuke original thesis with Johnson’s position on benefits of video games
Paragraph 5: Effect of brain such as desensitization
Paragraph 6: Advice for parents
Conclusion: Summation of points and restating thesis.

This paper seems pretty interesting to me as I am doing something similar. Maybe you would like to include these points:
1. Do you think it’s the content of the video games that is harmful? or are the harmful effects due to the number of hours spent playing video games?
2. And if you are going to mention the content of the video games then it could be nice if you just focus on a specific factor, like the violence, or maybe even the sexual content.
Good luck with your paper

I’m glad your are doing a similar topic as well. My main focus will actually be on the violence that is depicted in video games, such as murders, stealing, horrific scenes, etc. I will talk about the addictiveness in my paper as one of the reasons supporting my thesis.

I like the subject that you are focusing on. Will your advice for parents be taken from a scholarly source and if so what is actually recommended as ‘healthy’ video game playing?
It sounds like you do think there are some benefits to video game playing – if so, be careful when arguing against the negative effects of video game playing to not say that all video game playing is bad.
Nice job.

I’m not going to be talking about how video games should be recommended as healthy games for children. I will however, rebuke my original thesis from the position that Johnson takes on the cognitive virtues that are involved in gameplaying, but, my main focus is to just prove why violent games are dangerous in terms of agression, effect of brain, addictiveness, etc.
